Author Luncheon Will Feature Mary Alice Monroe on May 28th
Best-selling author Mary Alice Monroe will be the featured speaker at the Friends of Madison County Library author luncheon on Thursday, May 28th. And we're pleased that, for the first time, it will take place in Madison County. The luncheon will be held at lovely Mars Hill University in the Redway Dining Room at Pittman Dining Hall.
Monroe is the author of sixteen novels and two children's books. Her latest book, THE SUMMER’S END, is the final book in the Lowcountry trilogy, which includes THE SUMMER GIRLS and THE SUMMER WIND. In this enchanting trilogy, set on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina, Monroe captures the complex relationships between three half sisters scattered across the country -- and a grandmother determined to help them rediscover their family bonds.
Tickets for the luncheon will go on sale in April. Each $35 ticket includes a buffet-style lunch plus a program and book-signing by Monroe. Books will be available for purchase at the luncheon as well.
As part of this annual fundraising event, there will also be a silent auction. The silent auction has been a very successful fundraiser in the past, and luncheon attendees are always impressed by the talents of our local artists. Popular items include pottery, original artwork, woodcrafts, and baskets with locally produced items such as produce, honey, flowers/herbs or baked goods. Items valued at $25 or more may be donated for the silent auction. And remember, if you don’t have the talent, but know someone who does, purchasing an item from a local artist and donating it to the auction helps out twice! Donors will have their name and/or their business name prominently featured.
Please contact the library at 828-649-3741 for more information and to purchase tickets.
